Haverfordwest County AFC are delighted to announce the signing of forward Owain Jones, who will join the club for the 2024-25 season.

The former Cymru age grade international has agreed a one-year deal with the Bluebirds and will make the move to the Ogi Bridge Meadow after most recently playing for Pontypridd United in the JD Cymru Premier.

Owain becomes our second signing of the summer transfer window, after the return of academy graduate Greg Walters was announced yesterday.

The 27-year-old, who is a product of the Swansea City academy setup – where he worked under Bluebirds boss Tony Pennock – represented his country at under-16, 17, 19 and 21 level.

After gaining English Football League experience in the form of a loan period with Yeovil Town in 2017, the attacker took in a total of three spells with Merthyr Town between 2017 and 2020, before making the move back to Wales when he joined Aberystwyth Town in 2020.

Since then, he has found the net on 19 occasions in all competitions during his time with the Seasiders and Dragons, one of which came against the Town in a 2-2 draw at Park Avenue in May 2021.

Owain will be familiar with a host of players in the County squad, in particular his former teammates Lee Jenkins and Corey Shephard, who he played alongside at Aberystwyth Town and Pontypridd United respectively.

Commenting on the news, manager Tony Pennock said: “Owain is another player myself and Gary [Richards] have known and worked with for a number of years. He has all the attributes we enjoy in a player and person, and he will bring those to our club.

“We are both looking forward to working with Ows again, and we know he will compliment the attacking options we already have at the club.”

Upon signing for the club, Owain said: “I’m really excited to be joining a club that has gone from strength to strength since being back in the league.

“Also, to work under Pens again was an absolute no brainer for me.”
