Rhys linked up with the Bluebirds in the summer of 2022 after leaving Barry Town United. A former Wales age-grade international, the left wing-back came through the academy ranks at Cardiff City before joining the Linnets in 2019. The 26-year-old made his Haverfordwest County debut in the 4-2 victory over Barry Town United in the second round of the Nathaniel MG Cup in August 2022, and netted a goal against his former side. Abu was named in the JD Cymru Premier Team of the Season for 2023-24 after a very impressive campaign which saw him play 28 times and score six goals.
