Haverfordwest County welcome Colwyn Bay to the Ogi Bridge Meadow on Saturday lunchtime for our final home game of the season, in what is set to be an intriguing clash with ramifications at both the top and bottom of the JD Cymru Premier Playoff Conference.
The Bluebirds’ most recent outing was the dramatic 2-1 comeback victory over Barry Town United at the Ogi Bridge Meadow last Friday, with Corey Shephard’s bizarre 88th minute goal sealing a crucial three points, and a third successive win for Tony Pennock’s side.
The Seagulls, meanwhile, recorded a crucial 1-0 win at home to fellow strugglers Pontypridd United, with defender Harry Owen’s 18th-minute goal enough to secure the three points.
The previous meeting between the sides came at the start of the March, as we played out a goalless draw at the Four Crosses Construction Arena. The two encounters prior to this both went the way of the Town, as we won 2-1 in north Wales in September before running out 5-0 victors in November.
With the end of the season drawing ever nearer, the picture for the race for seventh is becoming ever clearer, however there remains a variety of permutations at play with two games remaining.
Should Haverfordwest County better the result of Penybont, who travel to Pontypridd on Saturday, we would clinch seventh spot with a game to spare. Both teams recording the same result would see us maintain our three-point advantage ahead of a potentially mouthwatering final day visit to Bont. A County draw and a Penybont win would see us remain top by a point, while a defeat for the Town and a Bont win would see the Bridgend outfit move into seventh thanks to a superior goal difference.
