Haverfordwest County return to the Ogi Bridge Meadow for the first time in almost a month when we host Penybont in a key JD Cymru Premier Playoff Conference encounter on Friday night.
The Bluebirds earned a point on their final north Walian trip of the regular season last Saturday, as we drew 0-0 with Colwyn Bay at the Four Crosses Construction Arena. Kai Whitmore did find the net in the second half, but the goal was ruled out for an offside in the build-up.
Bont, meanwhile, suffered a late defeat at the hands of Pontypridd United later in the day, as Jan Maertins struck to secure all three points for the Dragons at the SDM Glass Stadium.
The previous meeting between the sides came back in October, when we ran out 3-2 winners at the Ogi Bridge Meadow. Goals from Jack Wilson, Rhys Abbruzzese and Martell Taylor-Crossdale had given us a commanding lead before Rhys Griffiths’ side responded with goals from John Brown and Lewis Harling, but the Town did enough to earn victory on the night.
Tony Pennock’s men currently find themselves seventh in the standings, and top of the Playoff Conference. A victory would see us move seven points clear of the Bridgend outfit, with Barry Town United only one point further back in ninth. As we reach the halfway stage of Phase Two, we’re no closer to being able to say who will claim the all-important European play-off spot with the teams very closely matched at this point.
