Haverfordwest County AFC are delighted to confirm that Iori Humphreys has agreed a new one-year contract with the club.
A product of the our academy system, Iori is a former Development team captain and has been a regular part of the senior setup since breaking into the first team at the start of the 2021-22 season.
He made his first team debut as an 18-year-old in the 5-0 win over Undy Athletic in the Nathaniel MG Cup in September 2021, and his dedication and hard work was rewarded with a first professional contract, which he signed in January 2022.
Iori has made a total of 40 appearances for the club over the last two seasons or so, and has proven to be a dependable figure for the three managers he has worked under, with current boss Tony Pennock always keen to reward him with a place in matchday squads.
The defender was part of the team that qualified for Europe for the first time since 2004 last season, and he was given the opportunity to feature on the big stage when he was introduced as an 83rd-minute substitute in the historic penalty shoot-out victory over KF Shkëndija at the Cardiff City Stadium in July. The picture of his knee slide on his way to celebrate with teammate Zac Jones was one of the stand-out images of an incredible night.
Following an unforgettable European experience, Iori was handed the captain’s armband for the first time when he led the team in our Nathaniel MG Cup tie with Cardiff City under-21s at the Ogi Bridge Meadow in July, on what was a very proud afternoon for a popular member of the club.
Upon signing his new contract, Iori said: “I’m very happy to be staying here for another year. I’ve had a good run so far, and hopefully I can keep doing that for the rest of the season.
“The boys have been great to be fair. Since I started I’ve felt right at home, there’s a good atmosphere in the changing rooms right now.”
Commenting on the news, manager Tony Pennock said: “Iori has worked exceptionally hard at his game since my arrival last season.
“The extension of his contract is testament to that and how well he does when he has had an opportunity. I look forward to seeing him continue to develop further.”
