Haverfordwest County will be looking to get back to winning ways when they host Newtown in the JD Cymru Premier on Saturday (October 30).
After a dramatic comeback victory over Cefn Druids last weekend, the Bluebirds suffered a setback with a 2-0 defeat to Cardiff Metropolitan University in the quarter-finals of the Nathaniel MG Cup on Tuesday.
The Robins, on the other hand, have been in fine form of late, winning four of their previous five matches in the league, and are currently the Cymru Premier’s second highest goalscorers, having found the net 20 times in their 10 outings to date.
In their previous outing in the league, Chris Hughes’ side recorded a narrow 1-0 victory over Caernarfon Town at Latham Park, thanks to Lifumpa Mwandwe’s goal in first-half stoppage time.
The mid Wales side were also in action in midweek, suffering the same fate as the Bluebirds as they bowed out of the Nathaniel MG Cup at the last eight stage with a 3-1 defeat to Bala Town.
In the four meetings between the sides last season, County’s stand-out result was the 3-0 victory at Latham Park in March, after the teams had drawn 2-2 at the Ogi Bridge Meadow in September 2020. The Robins exacted revenge in the next two encounters, which took place in Phase Two, with a 5-1 home win in April before edging out County 2-1 in west Wales in May.
A victory for Wayne Jones’ men could see them rise to as high as sixth in the standings. However, with the league still very competitive at this early stage, the Bluebirds could finish the week in the drop zone, even with a draw.
