It was a tough night for the Bluebirds as despite their efforts, and many chances, Barry took all 3 points thanks to a David Cotterill free kick and a Nathaniel Jarvis goal.
The Bluebirds were looking to bounce back from a defeat against the Nomads on the weekend, and were off to a good start. Barry allowed the away side to control the game early on, with lots of the ball and a couple of chances. Ben Fawcett raced through on the right, cut inside away from Curtis McDonald by his shot was fired just wide of the near post.
Once the game began to settle, there were few clear cut chances, the best came when a Jordan Cotterill free kick was met by Nathaniel Jarvis but he headed just wide. Then, on the 29th minute, Barry took the lead as David Cotterill fired in a free kick from 30 yards, Steve Hall got a hand to it, it was then cleared but the linesman judged the ball to have crossed the line.
The Bluebirds reacted well, with Danny Williams’ low drive from the edge of the box forcing Mike Lewis into a smart save. From the resulting corner, the ball fell to Alaric Jones on the edge of the box, but his swivel and shot flew wide. The Bluebirds had the best of the chances before the half time whistle blew.
The second half began with a chance for Barry; Jordan Cotterill’s cross found Kayne McLaggon who volleyed over the bar. The Bluebirds then continued to dominate the game with excellent work from Jack Wilson on the right, who then found Ben Fawcett but his drive was wide of the goal. Danny Williams then had a shot from a similar position that was pushed wide by Mike Lewis in the Barry goal.
From the resulting corner, the Bluebirds equalised. Ben Fawcett found a yard of space just outside the 6 yard box and powered a header home, a more than deserved goal. From the kick, the Bluebirds were at it again. This time Kieran Lewis was in on goal but was shoved as he got his shot away and Mike Lewis saved.
However, this was short lived. Just 3 minutes after the equaliser, Chris Hugh chipped the ball to the back post where Nathaniel Jarvis was waiting and made it 2-1 to the home side on the 68th minute.
County had plenty of chances to equalise, namely a Cameron Keetch free kick that almost found Alaric Jones at the back post. The Bluebirds continued to push and push until an equaliser seemed certain. However Barry held on and the Bluebirds had to settle for no points after such a good performance.
Haverfordwest now travel to Bala Town on Saturday (3rd Oct) at 2.30pm.
