Haverfordwest County’s Tony Pennock and Corey Shephard have been nominated for the JD Cymru Premier’s Manager and Player of the Month awards for December respectively.

It was an impressive month overall for the Bluebirds, who went unbeaten in their four league matches to move up the table and into contention for the play-off places with Phase Two of the season just around the corner.

County kick-started December with an impressive 2-0 victory away at Bala Town. Shephard netted a goal-of-the-season contender – a first-time half-volley from the half way line – to give the Bluebirds a half-time lead, before Ben Ahmun’s penalty less than two minutes into the second half sealed a thoroughly deserved three points on a wet and windy night in north Wales.

This result was followed up with a draw away at Flint Town United in dramatic circumstances. With the Silkmen leading 2-0 inside the final 10 minutes thanks to goals from Elliott Reeves and Josh Jones, two goals in as many minutes from Dan Hawkins and Ahmun completed an unlikely comeback to earn the Blues a precious point.

Haverfordwest County were back in action on Boxing Day when we claimed a 3-0 win over Llanelli Town at the Ogi Bridge Meadow. Owain Jones opened the scoring, with Shephard doubling our advantage before Ben Fawcett rounded off the scoring in his final game before departing for Australia.

The month was rounded off with a goalless draw away at Cardiff Metropolitan on December 30. The Bluebirds came closest to scoring through Greg Walters in stoppage time, but a point was a fair result.
