Haverfordwest County AFC’s Development side have been crowned champions of the FAW National Academi South Development League for a second successive season!

The young Bluebirds came out on top after a thrilling title race with Cardiff Metropolitan and Briton Ferry Llansawel, edging out the Students by virtue of a superior goal difference and finishing three points ahead of the Ferry.

Ceri Phillips’ side completed their league programme on Sunday 20 April with a 6-0 victory over Carmarthen Town at the Ogi Bridge Meadow, however they had to wait another seven days for the destination of the title to be decided – with Cardiff Metropolitan hosting Merthyr Town on Sunday 27 April.

The Archers needed to win by an eight-goal margin if they were to leapfrog County into first place, however their 4-0 victory meant they fell just short and the Town could celebrate back-to-back league titles.

Having already lifted the FAW Youth Cup after defeating Caernarfon Town 2-1 at Park Avenue in Aberystwyth Town at the start of April, the league title marks an historic campaign for the team, who can now look to forward to another national final where they will take on The New Saints – with the winner securing a place in next season’s UEFA Youth League. Details of the date, venue and kick-off time will be announced in due course.

County netted 107 times in their 30 league games, with striker Dan John leading the way with 38 goals. Osian James contributed 14 goals, with Sammie Vaughan-Harries scoring 13 times. The team won 21 of their matches, drawing four and losing five.
