Haverfordwest County AFC striker Ben Ahmun was pleased to score his fourth goal of the season, but was ultimately left frustrated after the Bluebirds failed to capitalise on their man advantage in the 1-1 draw with Barry Town United on Tuesday.

County fell behind to Ollie Hulbert’s opener, but were soon back in the contest when defender Josh Yorwerth was shown a straight red card for preventing a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Ahmun found the net on the stroke of half time and all of the momentum was with the Town from that point on, but despite their relentless pressure County were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

Here’s what the striker had to say in full after the game:

On the frustration

Definitely, especially at home. Frustrating. We should be doing better. We should be creating more against 10 men. Obviously we haven’t lost, but it’s not the result we wanted.

On conceding

We’ve obviously got to defend better. We talk about them [set-pieces] all the time. We’ve seen it on the screens, we’ve set up, we’ve got to do better. But to be fair, we’ve come back from that. We scored straight away. But with 10 men, we’ve got a half left, we’ve got to be doing better.

On his goal

It’s okay. Not so much after not winning, we haven’t won today. I’d rather win, but obviously it’s a positive and a nice goal.

On settling in

I feel like I’ve been here for a long time. There’s no settling in period, especially in terms of personalities and playing style. Now we’re starting to obviously see that we’re kind of getting to grips with one another, but it’s been easy, an easy transition.

On using his experience

Definitely. I’m one of the older players. I guess that’s one of the reasons why Penns obviously brought people like me, Macca [Kyle McCarthy] in, so I just try and share the experiences and try and influence the team as best I can really.

Pennock: We didn’t show enough quality tonight
Interviews3 months ago

On our start to the campaign

We’ve started the season positively, but we’ve set a standard now. So, even if you start well, it doesn’t mean you can perform like we have today. Obviously on the ball, we dominated and we were doing well, but creating chances and obviously that set-piece needs to better. So I know we’ve started well, but we set high standards, so we expect to do better than today.

On our next game

100% [a tough challenge]. But we move on from today now, we can be unhappy tonight, tomorrow, get on with the next game and go and get three points and make it right.
