In a proud moment for Haverfordwest County Walking Football Ladies, four Pembrokeshire players were officially awarded their Welsh caps — presented by Wales Women’s captain, Angharad James.

Angharad, herself from Pembrokeshire, invited the players to The Vale Resort to watch the Wales Women’s training session ahead of their international friendly against Poland. The Haverfordwest squad met manager Rhian Wilkinson, chatted with players, and were then personally presented with their caps by Angharad — a gesture that reinforced the connection between elite football and grassroots pride.

The caps recognised their achievements at the IWFF World Walking Football Championships held in Malmö, Sweden (4–6 July), where Haverfordwest players represented Wales across three age groups:

– Over 40s: Leanne Jones (Player-Coach) and Marie Tilley — reached the semi-finals
– Over 50s: Pam Thomas — reached the quarter-finals
– Over 60s: Jan Bevan — made her Wales debut

Marie and Pam first represented Wales at the Tri-Nations in Norway earlier this year, while Jan’s debut came in Malmö. Leanne, who has played for Wales since 2022, also coached the Over 40s squad during the tournament.

This recognition not only celebrates individual achievement, but also highlights the growing presence of Pembrokeshire players on the national walking football stage — with club, county, and country proudly aligned.
