Haverfordwest County striker Ben Ahmun says it’s important that the Bluebirds build on their positive second-half display in the dramatic 3-3 draw with Connah’s Quay Nomads yesterday, as the Town aim for a strong finish to Phase One in the JD Cymru Premier.

With the Bluebirds trailing 3-1 inside the final five minutes, captain Dylan Rees found the net to set up a grandstand finish before impressive substitute Owain Jones won a penalty that was converted by Ahmun to earn a valuable point with his ninth goal of the season.

The forward has been one of County’s stand-out players so far this season, and he believes that replicating the level of performance we produced in the second half will stand us in good stead for the remainder of Phase One, with the middle to lower section of the league table incredibly tightly-packed.

Here’s what the striker had to say in full after the game:

On the result

It was great to get a point. The boys showed a lot of character today. Tough conditions, obviously a tough place to come. We could have got more potentially, we had a few chances, I had a few chances, but in the end it’s a good result I think away from home.

We know that when we’re on our game, when we put things together, when we defend right and we play our football, we can score goals and create chances and be good. But again, it’s doing that over 90 minutes. So today, second half we’ve come out, showed a bit of character and got the goals. I thought the substitutions did well today, they made a difference, and it’s a good result in the end.

On playing alongside Owain Jones and building on the performance

He was outstanding. I think he’s won the penalty. He held up play when he’s come on and been very good. Obviously I’ve played with Ows before, I’d say now this is the fourth year in a row maybe, so I kind of know how he plays, and I think he did very well when he came on. I think all the players had a good second half to be fair.

Obviously we’ve been together a while now, we obviously had a great year last year, so we know each other, we’ve worked hard together, we know what we can do for one another. We know that when we’re together we can perform well. We’ve just got keep going now in the league, I know we had a slip-up recently in the cup, but obviously in the league we’ve had some good performances and now this is the fourth one. We’ve just got to keep going like this, and who knows where we’ll be come the split.

We’ve just got to kind of keep the level of performance from the second half today and obviously the last three league games. If we do that we’ll be somewhere we should be.
