Podgorica Airport is close to the city centre, and should cost no more than 15 euros in a fixed-rate taxi.

  • Daytime: 26-30°C, warm & sunny.
  • Evenings: 18-21 °C, cooler.

Currency

  • Euro (€) is the official currency of Montenegro.
  • Cards are widely accepted, but keep cash for taxis/markets.
  • Tipping: 10–15% if happy with service.

Things to See

  • Stara Varoš (Old Town) – Despite heavy wartime destruction, it retains its ottoman past.
  • Millennium Bridge & Moraca River – One of Podgorica’s most recognisable landmarks.
  • Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ – Striking architecture.
  • Gorica Hill Park – City views, green space.
  • Shkodra Lake National Park (short trip) – Home to the largest lake in the Balkans, home to the infamous Dalmatian Pelican.

Local Food

  • Ćevapi – grilled meat with flatbread.
  • Burek – pastry with cheese/meat/spinach.
  • Njeguški steak – smoked ham & cheese specialty.
  • Kačamak – hearty potato/cornmeal dish.
  • Try local cheeses, smoked meats, and wines.

Podgorica City Stadium (National team stadium)

  • Home supporters are known as Varvari – Pyrotechnics are often used at home games so just be aware of this, however their use at UEFA-sanctioned matches is banned.
  • Capacity: 11,080 seats.
  • Facilities: Basic (water, soft drinks, snacks).

Travel and Tips

  • City centre is walkable; taxis are cheap.
  • English spoken in tourist areas.
  • Podgorica is safe; just use normal travel awareness.
