Haverfordwest County are gearing up to compete in the UEFA Youth League for the very first time tomorrow, as we welcome FK Budućnost Podgorica to the Ogi Bridge Meadow.
The young Bluebirds were drawn against the Montenegrin outfit on September 1, as we discovered our opponents for what is our maiden UEFA Youth League campaign.
Ceri Phillips’ side, who last season made history by winning the FAW National Academi Development League South, FAW Youth Cup and National Academi Development League play-off final – which secured our place in Europe – will be flying for the flag for Wales in this season’s competition.
Our first round opponents have previous experience in the competition, having competed in last season’s edition. They defeated Dinamo Tblisi of Georgia 6-4 on aggregate in the first round, before bowing out at the second round stage with an 8-3 aggregate defeat to Trabzonspor, who would go on to reach the final of the competition where they lost 4-1 to Barcelona.
