Assistant manager Gary Richards admitted that while he was impressed that Haverfordwest County continued their unbeaten run against Caernarfon Town this season with a draw at the Ogi Bridge Meadow yesterday, there was a sense of frustration with the way the Bluebirds conceded so soon after scoring.
The Town went ahead seven minutes into the second half when Ben Ahmun rose highest to head home from Jacob Owen’s pinpoint corner, however the visitors were awarded a penalty two minutes later which Louis Lloyd converted.
County had more opportunities, particularly in the first half, and dug in well during the second half when the wind and rain was driving into their faces.
The Bluebirds remain third in the JD Cymru Premier Championship Conference having extended their unbeaten record against the Canaries to seven matches, knowing that a point against Cardiff Metropolitan in a fortnight’s time will ensure a third place finish.
Here’s what the assistant manager had to say in full after the game:
On the result
We’ll take the point in the end. I thought first half we played quite well; we got into some good positions, made some good opportunities, just never made the most of them first half.
On the goal
Delighted with the goal, obviously, because Tony works a lot on attacking set-pieces, but then we’re obviously disappointed to concede straight after because that little period after you score is so important. We just didn’t do our jobs and allowed them into the box, and obviously a penalty came from it.
On being unbeaten against Caernarfon this season
It is impressive, and they’re on our tails, Caernarfon are a good team. We probably played in a way during the second half which suited them. It was a lot more open than what we would’ve liked, the game went from end-to-end and perhaps our game management could have been a bit better, especially second half today.
On the remainder of the campaign
We’ve got two tough games left. Our focus now will be on Cardiff Met, making sure we prepare properly, and we know that game will be tough, but we have to make sure we are ready to go and get a positive result. It’s important that you approach every game right and you’re looking for good performances and, as often as you can, positive results.
