Haverfordwest County AFC are delighted to announce that Owain Jones has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.
Owain joined the Bluebirds last summer and has played an important role in helping us to achieve our first top six finish in a 12-team JD Cymru Premier, contributing five goals to date.
It didn’t take long for Ows to make a positive impression on the group when, in just his second league game for the club, he scored the winning goal in the 91st minute away at Caernarfon Town – in front of the live Sgorio cameras.
The forward also found the net in the 3-0 win over Newtown in August, before scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 victory against Cardiff Metropolitan at the end of September.
Having scored the opening goal in the 2-1 win away at Briton Ferry Llansawel in October, Owain – who is a former Cymru age-grade international – was most recently on target just last Saturday, when he finished off a slick team move to score the third goal in the 5-1 success over Briton Ferry Llansawel at the Ogi Bridge Meadow Stadium. He also provided an assist for Ben Ahmun that day, returning the favour after his strike partner had set him up for his earlier goal.
Commenting on the news, manager Tony Pennock said: “Myself and Waggy have known Ows for a very long time. We’ve all worked closely to manage Ows this season, and we believe if we continue to be sensible he will play a big part in our club for a number of seasons.
“His return this season in terms of minutes played, goals and assists are his best for several seasons, and we will continue to make decisions for the benefit of Ows and our squad for the long term. Ows understands this and is enjoying his football, which is important for everyone.”
Sharing his delight, Owain said: “I have loved my time here so far and it was a really easy decision to extend my stay.
“The club is full of great and talented people, and I’m excited to keep pushing towards our goals!”
