Haverfordwest County AFC are delighted to announce that manager Tony Pennock has agreed a one-year extension to his contract with the club!
The Bluebirds boss’ previous deal – which he agreed in November 2023 – was due to take him through to the end of the 2025-26 season, however this news means we can now look forward to having Tony with us in Pembrokeshire until at least the conclusion of the 2026-27 campaign.
It’s fair to say Haverfordwest County AFC have enjoyed a period of upward trajectory since the former Hull City first team coach arrived at the Ogi Bridge Meadow in July 2022, with a host of club records being broken over the course of the last two years and more.
Since taking charge of the Town, Tony has been named the JD Cymru Premier Manager of the Month on five occasions, in November 2022, April 2023, November 2023, August 2024 and October 2024).
Our success in the 2022-23 JD Cymru Premier European play-offs, which saw us defeat Cardiff Metropolitan and Newtown away from home, before going on to become the first Haverfordwest County AFC side to win on the European stage as we defeated KF Shkëndija of North Macedonia on penalties at Cardiff City Stadium, are the undoubted high points of Tony’s tenure so far.
Having led the team to achieving new club records for highest finishing position, most wins, most goals scored and fewest goals conceded in a 12-team top-flight season – feats which were achieved with the youngest squad in the league – Tony recently oversaw another milestone as we went unbeaten for eight games in the JD Cymru Premier, surpassing our previous best of seven which we set at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.
As a result of our strong performances thus far in 2024-25, we find ourselves in a good position to clinch a first top six finish in a 12-team JD Cymru Premier, having lost just three times in our 16 league outings so far this season, conceding only eight goals in that period as we occupy third place with six games left to play in Phase One.
Speaking after signing his new deal, Tony said: “I believe we have made big strides forward on and off the pitch in the last two and a half years, and I want to help continue our progression.
“We know we have lots to improve on. I, along with the board, staff, players and volunteers have a fantastic opportunity to write our own chapter in the great history of our club.
“The ongoing developments at the Ogi Bridge Meadow can only strengthen our club and I, along with Gary [Richards], want to play a part in making this season and seasons to come a success for our club.
“Gaining European qualification in 2022/23 has only given me a stronger desire to achieve more, and that should be our aim as a club every season. TEAM 💙”
Commenting on the news, chairman Rob Edwards said: “We are delighted to extend Tony’s contract for a further year.
“We are a forward-thinking club and always have the next few years in mind when making decisions, and it was a no brainer for myself and my Board to try to keep Tony here for the long-term based on the successful period the club has gone through under his leadership.
“It’s been a fantastic start to the season with yet more records broken, and we feel this is the beginning of a really successful period for the club.
“We are delighted Tony will be leading us through it until at least the end of the 2026-27 season.”
