Haverfordwest County AFC are delighted to share the news that we have received approval to operate a Football Association of Wales (FAW)-accredited Girls Development Centre.
The development centres, which are spread geographically across Wales and form part of the FAW’s female player pathway, help to support and develop young players to progress into the FAW Girls Academy squads, where they can then earn a place in the various national youth teams.
Development Centre players will attend weekly training sessions and take part in competitive fixtures against other development centres across Wales, ensuring they can test themselves on a regular basis and continue their progression in challenging environments.
Players will receive weekly contact time with FAW pathway coaches, with a key focus on player development as sessions concentrate on technical skills and tactical elements. Individual development plans and sports science support are also included in the programme.
Commenting on the news, Chief Operating Officer, Beccy Nuttall said: “As a club, we are incredibly excited for this next chapter as we strive to grow our women and girls provision.
“Mikey is a huge ambassador for girls football, and I can see this section of our club going from strength to strength in the coming years.”
Mikey Loveridge, Head of Women’s and Girls’ Football at Haverfordwest County AFC, added: “It’s such great news that we have secured Development Centre status. So much work has gone on behind the scenes to achieve this, and a big thank you goes to our COO, Beccy Nuttall for her help and support over that period.
“It was really important to us that we could become a Development Centre so we could be in a position to support participation levels in the Pembrokeshire Girls League. Being a Development Centre means the girls who play for Haverfordwest County AFC can still play for their grassroots clubs – which is great news for local girls teams.
“It’s also fantastic for our girls that we can test oursleves against the other Girls Development Centres across Wales. To be able to go up against strong opposition on a regular basis will only aid the girls’ development.
“We will also be included in all of the Development Centre festivals throughout the season, which again is going to be amazing for all of our players.
“We are really looking forward to this season and building on what has already been an excellent start for our girls’ teams.”
