Haverfordwest County AFC are pleased to announce academy product Owain Davies has signed his first senior contract with the club.
The 19-year-old played an important role in last season’s Cymru Premier Development League South title win, featuring throughout the campaign in a defence which only conceded 27 times in their 30 league matches. Overall, he played 24 times in the league and the cup and contributed four goals, including a memorable last gasp winner in the 3-2 victory away at Barry Town United at the start of February.
The defender has already had a brief taste of senior football, as he was part of the squad that competed against Cardiff City under-21s in last season’s Nathaniel MG Cup tie at the Ogi Bridge Meadow, when he featured alongside his Development teammates on a proud afternoon for the club.
Owain becomes the latest academy player to make the step up to the first team, as he follows in the footsteps of current squad members Iori Humphreys, Alaric Jones, Greg Walters, Ricky Watts, Harri John, Jacob Owen, Jack Wilson, Ben Fawcett and Fletcher Picton to ensure the strong representation of Pembrokeshire talent continues to have the opportunity to test themselves at the highest level in Wales.
Owain has been training with the first team since pre-season got under way a fortnight ago, and featured in Saturday’s friendly with Carmarthen Town at LHP Stadium.
Upon signing his contract, Owain said: “I’m delighted to sign my first professional contract with the club, having been involved in the academy from a young age.
“I’m very grateful to Tony and all of the staff for the opportunity, and I can’t wait to get started.”
