Haverfordwest County AFC are delighted to confirm that Rhys Abbruzzese has agreed a one-year extension to his current contract with the club.
The wing-back, who is affectionately known by Bluebirds supporters as ‘Dave’, linked up with County ahead of the 2022-23 season, and has been one of our most consistent performers in that time, racking up 59 appearances in all competitions to date.
Rhys’ debut came against former club Barry Town United in the Nathaniel MG Cup in August 2022, as he found the net to make the ideal start to his time with the Bluebirds.
The 25-year-old, who is a former Wales age grade international, played in all four of our European ties in the summer, and proved that he could step up to the level required to help us create club history by winning a tie for the first time.
Rhys has featured 20 times in all competitions so far this season, and has contributed three goals, including the last-gasp free-kick at home to Caernarfon Town back in August.
Upon signing his new contract, Rhys said: “I’m delighted to be extending my time here. It’s an exciting club with good ambitions, and has lots of great people around it.
“I’m glad to get it done and am now looking forward to the rest of the season, starting with tonight’s game.”
Commenting on the news, manager Tony Pennock said: “Rhys has shown everyone that he is the best left-sided defender/wing-back in the league again this season.
“For Rhys to extend his contract is testament to the ambition of our club, and we all look forward to many more appearances from ‘Dave’.”
