Striker Martell Taylor-Crossdale was delighted to open his Haverfordwest County account with what proved to be the winning goal in our 2-1 victory at Colwyn Bay yesterday.

After Kai Whitmore’s goal had drawn the Bluebirds level, the forward was on hand to poke the ball home from close range with just minutes remaining, after seeing his initial effort blocked from a corner.

The 23-year-old has been an ever-present for County so far this term, and will now be hoping that this will be the catalyst to allow him to kick on and score more goals for his team.

Here’s what he had to say after the game:

On the result…

“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb, but it’s good. It’s good that we showed that resilience and that fight to come back. We know as a team that we can do a lot better, but it’s good to get off the mark. Now it’s all about kicking on and getting three points next time.”

“We’ve shown that we can win today, so that needs to be the trigger that we need to go and kick on now.”

On the game…

“We created a lot of chances, it’s just about how are we going to turn them into goals, and we all know that. That’s one of our targets, our aims, because we know we can create. It’s just about putting it back in the back of the net. It was a tough game. For me personally, I know I can do a lot more, but I’m just glad to get the first goal and now it’s about kicking on.”

On pressing forward after the win…

“That’s what we as a team are looking at now, for this to be the game we kick on from. We know we can win. Well, we’ve shown that we can win today, so that needs to be the trigger that we need to go and kick on now.”

On his strike partners…

“Whoever I’ve been up there with so far this season has done really well. It’s just that final part, putting the ball in the goal, that’s the main thing. All of us are trying to do that as much as we can.”

On playing in Europe this summer…

“It was a great experience playing in Europe showing what we can do against massive teams, but that’s been and gone now. We’ve just got to focus on the league and do better in the here and now, but we’ve shown that today so hopefully it continues.”

On the next challenge…

“Exactly. I’m not too sure what Newtown are about because it will obviously be my first game against them, but we’ll take on whoever we need to take on and I feel like, for me, we can beat anyone.”
