Haverfordwest County defender Lee Jenkins has been included in the Cymru C squad for the International Challenge Match against England C later this month.

The game, which will take place at the J.Davidson Stadium – the home of Altrincham FC – on March 21, will see the best Welsh players from the JD Cymru Premier and below take on the best non-league players from the National League and below.

The two teams will meet for the second time in as many years, after the scheduled encounters in 2020 and 2021 did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last year’s encounter, which was held at The Oval in Caernarfon, saw Mark Jones’ side run out comfortable 4-0 winners thanks to braces from Will Evans – who has since joined Newport County – and Connah’s Quay Nomads midfielder Aeron Edwards.

Jenkins, who played for Aberystwyth Town at the time, was part of the squad for that famous night, joining now-teammate Ben Fawcett on the substitutes bench as the Red Dragons eased to victory.

The commanding centre-back, who joined the Bluebirds last summer, has been a regular member of the team this season, playing in all but one of our 25 matches to date in the JD Cymru Premier, while also featuring in the JD Welsh Cup and Nathaniel MG Cup.

The 20-strong squad, which consists of players from nine Cymru Premier teams, will face a stern challenge against an England side that includes the likes of National League top scorer, Macauley Langstaff, who has netted 33 times for promotion-chasing Notts County. Wrexham striker Sam Dalby has also been named in the provisional 25-man squad.

Commenting on the match and the selection of his squad, manager Jones said: “We are very much looking forward to the game, and it will be a good challenge against a top class England side.

“I would like to congratulate every player who has been selected. I have stayed loyal to many of those who performed so well last year, but selection was nonetheless difficult because there are so many in-form players.”
