Haverfordwest County continued their pre-season preparations with an 8-0 win over Ynysygerwn at Llandarcy Academy of Sport on Friday.

Goals from Jamie Veale and Dan James added to a trio of braces from Lee Jenkins, Ioan Evans and Ben Fawcett to give the Bluebirds a comfortable victory.

Tony Pennock’s side were on the front foot in the early stages, with Jack Wilson firing a shot just wide of the right post.

Just five minutes after coming on for Henry Jones, who was taken off as a precaution, Veale gave the Bluebirds the lead when he won the ball back high up the pitch before firing a shot into the left corner.

Evans and Veale went close to adding to County’s lead before half-time, but they didn’t have to wait long to extend their advantage after the restart when Jenkins headed home from Jack Wilson’s corner on the 50-minute mark.

It was 3-0 five minutes later when Evans, who took on more of an attacking role throughout the game, drilled a low effort into the net.

After substitute Rhys Abbruzzese had seen his effort denied and Fawcett had glanced a header wide, Jenkins was on hand to take the score to 4-0 when Fawcett glanced a header into his path for him to tap in from point-blank range.

Pennock’s side found a fifth goal 10 minutes later when a lovely flick from Wilson played Evans into space, and he showed good composure to sit the goalkeeper down and roll the ball into the net.

Substitute James impressed during his time on the pitch, and he showed his finishing ability with a long range strike which made it 6-0 with just over five minutes remaining.

Another substitute got on the scoresheet when Fawcett found the top left corner with two minutes remaining, and there was just enough time left to add an eighth when James was brought down inside the area to earn a penalty, which Fawcett converted with the final kick of the game.

The Bluebirds are next in action on Tuesday, July 19 when we travel to face JD Cymru South outfit Barry Town United.
