Ben Fawcett, Jordan Davies, Ioan Evans, Ryan George and a brace from Trialist gave the Bluebirds a comfortable win in Chepstow.
Tony Pennock’s side were on the front foot in the early stages, and they went close to opening the scoring after only two minutes when Rhys Abbruzzese headed just wide of the right post from Jordan Davies’ cross.
County didn’t have to wait long to take the lead though, as Fawcett rose highest to head home from Jamie Veale’s corner a quarter of an hour later to continue his good goalscoring form in pre-season.
With the Bluebirds beginning to settle into their attacking patterns, it was 2-0 just minutes later when Jordan Davies fired home from inside the area.
Summer signing Evans was showing plenty of intent to get forward and play a part in the final third, and the wing-back got his reward when his well-struck effort found the right corner to extend the lead to 3-0.
Fawcett went close to adding a fourth just two minutes later, but his goal-bound effort was tipped over the crossbar.
The Bluebirds had chances aplenty to find a fourth goal in the opening exchanges of the second-half, with the heavily-involved Abbruzzese seeing his shot saved at the near post before George headed wide from Iori Humphreys’ cross. Trialist then hit the bar with his header from a corner, and Abbruzzese saw his strike graze the top of the bar.
Pennock’s men eventually found the fourth goal when Trialist tapped in at the far post from Abbruzzese’s cross.
Portskewett and Sudbrook, who play in the seventh tier East Gwent League Division One, battled hard all afternoon, and they pulled a goal back with just under 15 minutes remaining when a header from a free-kick found the net. However, there was still time for County to score twice more before the end.
Having missed an earlier opportunity, George eventually got on the scoresheet when he broke into the area and showed good acceleration to beat the goalkeeper to the loose ball to chip into the net.
Just minutes later, Haverfordwest County were awarded a penalty when academy product Toby Davies was brought down inside the area, but Evans was denied a brace when his spot kick was saved.
However, with the final kick of the game, Trialist found the net for a second time to ensure a winning margin of five goals for the Pembrokeshire side.
The Bluebirds are next in action on Tuesday evening, when we travel to Parc Ynysderw to take on JD Cymru South outfit Pontardawe Town.
