Haverfordwest County AFC are delighted to confirm that Jazz Richards has agreed a new two-year deal to remain with the club.

The former Wales international joined the Bluebirds in March 2021 in one of the highest profile transfers in the history of the JD Cymru Premier, and has featured 34 times for the club in all competitions.

Upon his arrival, the 14-cap Richards immediately added experience and a level of composure to the County backline, and has been a vital part of the team as we gear up for our third consecutive season in the top echelon of Welsh football.

Richards, 31, has had a distinguished career at the highest level of football in Britain, having represented the likes of Swansea City, Cardiff City, Crystal Palace, Huddersfield Town and Fulham – and was part of the Wales team that memorably reached the semi-finals of the European Championship in 2016.

While putting his defensive responsibilities first, Richards has also shown his quality going forward and, in April, the full-back netted a hat-trick in the 6-1 win against Cefn Druids at The Rock with the first goals of his senior career – a display that earned him a place in the JD Cymru Leagues Team of the Week.

Speaking after the game, Richards made clear how much he was enjoying his role under manager Nicky Hayen, who encourages his full-backs to get forward whenever possible to contribute to the attacking phase.

Richards will be part of a Bluebirds defence which includes captain Dylan Rees, Kyle Patten, Elliot Scotcher, Iori Humphreys and Ryan George, as well as new signings Rhys Abbruzzese and Ioan Evans.

Ever since his arrival at the club 14 months ago, Jazz has been a real asset, not only to the football club – where he has embraced the community and the local area – but also to the league, with his presence helping to attract added attention and provide real credibility to Wales’ top-flight – which continues to go from strength to strength.

The club are over the moon to have retained someone with the quality and experience that Jazz possesses, as we look to build on our performances from the last two seasons in the JD Cymru Premier.
