Haverfordwest County will look to build on last week’s positive display against Bala Town when they travel to the Deeside Stadium to face reigning JD Cymru Premier champions Connah’s Quay Nomads on Saturday (December 18).

After back-to-back defeats against Caernarfon Town and Flint Town United, the Bluebirds turned in an improved display against the Lakesiders – who interim manager Sean Pemberton described as a “top three club” – as they battled hard to earn a point in a 0-0 draw.

The Nomads were forced to settle for a point in their previous outing against Cardiff Metropolitan University, drawing 0-0 at home to make it seven games unbeaten in the league.

Craig Harrison’s side currently find themselves in fifth place in the standings, an impressive feat considering the slow start they made to the season, which resulted in manager Andy Morrison stepping down after six years in charge.

The spoils were shared in the last meeting between the sides, with Ben Fawcett’s late goal cancelling out Callum Morris’ first-half penalty.

The Nomads were victorious in both encounters between the teams in the 2020-21 campaign, winning 4-1 at the Ogi Bridge Meadow in September 2020, before running out 2-0 winners at the Deeside Stadium in March.

With last week’s point moving County level on 16 points with Aberystwyth Town, a point would be enough to see the Bluebirds move out of the drop zone should the Black and Greens be defeated away at Caernarfon Town this evening.

A victory for Haverfordwest County could see them go joint on points with eighth-placed Barry Town United, who play Cardiff Metropolitan University at Cyncoed Campus tonight.
