Haverfordwest County earned a hard-fought point in a 1-1 draw with Barry Town United at the Ogi Bridge Meadow on Tuesday evening.

Kyle Patten had put the Bluebirds ahead from close range three minutes into the second-half, but Kayne McLaggon equalised for the visitors 20 minutes later to ensure a share of the spoils.

The game, which was played in front of the Sgorio cameras, was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams showing a willingness to attack despite the poor weather which persisted throughout the match.

Wayne Jones made two changes to the side which lost to The New Saints on Saturday, with Lee Idzi replacing Wojciech Gajda in goal, and Elliot Scotcher – who captained the side – coming in for injured skipper Dylan Rees.

The Bluebirds had a good chance to take the lead after just five minutes when Kieran Lewis met Jazz Richards’ excellent cross from the right side, but could only head straight at Mike Lewis.

Rhys Abbruzzese curled a free-kick narrowly over the bar from just outside the area, before Alhagi Touray Sisay saw his effort from a tight angle saved low down by Lewis.

County made the perfect start to the second-half when the ball fell to the feet of Patten after a scramble inside the area following a corner, and the defender did well to place his shot into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Bluebirds the lead.

With Barry pressing for an equaliser, Lee Idzi had to be alert to deny Barry attacker Rhys Kavanagh from close range just before the hour mark.

Gavin Chesterfield’s side were level 10 minutes later, however, when the ball went aerial from a corner, and McLaggon was in the right place to prod it home from close range to make it all square.

The closest either side came to finding a winning goal was when Jack Wilson was denied by Lewis in a one-on-one scenario with just over 10 minutes remaining.

With Cardiff Metropolitan University losing away to Pen-y-Bont, the result was enough to see the Bluebirds climb one place to ninth in the JD Cymru Premier.

There is no game for County this weekend, with the league taking a break. The Bluebirds are back in action on November 20, when we host Caernarfon Town at the Ogi Bridge Meadow (Kick-off: 14:30). You can purchase tickets for the game from our online club shop.
