The Bluebirds were denied back-to-back wins by a dominant Newtown despite a 40-yard goal from Corey Shephard.

The first scare for the Bluebirds came in the 3rd minute as a header sailed narrowly wide. The Bluebirds’ first shot of the game game as Shephard let loose a half volley, which was blocked to Rees who fired wide.

The first clear-cut chance fell to the Robins, as Ofori squared and Gajda denied a certain goal with his outstretched leg. However, just 10 minutes later the home side were in front as Ofori picked up a loose ball and fired in from the edge of the area. Less than a minute later, the lead was doubled as Mwandwe tapped home a rebound from an excellent Gajda stop.

Gajda was kept busy as he stopped another low drive from the edge of the area. However, the Robins continued to press and scored a third before half time as Shane Sutton headed home from a corner.

Newtown came out on the front foot in the second half as Mwandwe played a one-two to see the former race through, but he dragged his shot wide. Another attack so Mwandwe poke home at the far post but it was ruled out for offside.

The Bluebirds began to press and were caught on the break, Mwandwe raced through and rounded Gajda to make it four. Shortly after, Gajda pulled off an unbelievable save to deny Ofori a second goal.

The Bluebirds then pulled a goal back through Corey Shephard who picked the ball up in the centre circle and lobbed the Newtown goalkeeper from 40 yards.

Gajda was once again called upon as James Davies raced through on the left, into the box, and had his low effort saved by the feet of the Polish stopper. A few minutes later, Gajda once again saved from point blank range as Davies fired towards the goal.

However, there was nothing Gajda could do to stop Jordan Evans firing in at the back post with 5 minutes to go.
