The Bluebirds travel to Penybont for a 5pm kick off in the final game of Phase 1, with the Sgorio cameras broadcasting the match live.
Last Time Out
The Bluebirds travelled to Newtown last Saturday and recorded an emphatic win. Despite an early scare as Turner tipped a Newtown cross on to the crossbar, the Bluebirds were ahead after 23 minutes as Corey Shephard played an excellent ball down the left to release Keetch, who successfully pulled back for Kieran Lewis and fired home. A speculative Corey Shephard volley from the halfway line almost caught out the Newtown keeper but it landed on the roof of the net. The Bluebirds started the second half well, and Cameron Keetch made it two just 15 minutes in. Jazz Richards threw the ball to Lewis, who flicked the ball over a defender into Shephard’s path, Shephard then rolled a perfectly weighted pass to Keetch who rifled the ball into the top corner. The Bluebirds controlled most of the second half and substitute Marcus Griffiths made it 3-0 just before the 90th minute. Fawcett won the ball back in midfield and it was Shephard again who played an excellent over-the-top pass to Griffiths, who rounded the keeper and finished the game in style.
Penybont travelled to in-form Aberystwyth last Saturday where they earned a hard-fought draw. Harry Franklin scored again for the mid-Wales side to give them the lead in the first half. It took until the hour mark for Penybont to hit back, where Mael Davies controlled well in the box to fire passed Connor Roberts. Despite Gwion Owen’s red card for the home side, this proved to be the last goal of the game, which finished 1-1.
The Reverse Fixture
Penybont travelled to Haverfordwest back in October where the away side won 4-0. Following an excellent win at Bala, the Bluebirds were in high spirits, but Penybont came out fighting and were 2-0 up half time thanks to goals from Dan Jeffries and a fantastic volley from Oliver Dalton. The Bluebirds changed things at half time, but couldn’t make a breakthrough. Instead, Penybont manager Rhys Griffiths came off the bench to score 2 late goals in an emphatic wins for the away side.
The Table
In what has been described as “our cup final” by chairman Rob Edwards, the Bluebirds need a win to have any chance of reaching the top 6. If Haverfordwest win by 3 clear goals or more, the Bluebirds will leapfrog Penybont and guarantee a top 6 finish. However, if County record a victory of less than 3 clear goals, results elsewhere will play a role. The current 6th placed team, Caernarfon Town, face TNS. Due to the current goal differences, if County win and Caernarfon lose, the Bluebirds will jump into 6th spot on goal difference, at the expense of Caernarfon.
