The club can confirm that they had applied to join the English League system for the season 2021/2022, and the application has been duly accepted. As a member club have returned to Welsh football, the club has been accepted to the Southern League Premier Division with one club in this league moving to the Northern division of Tier 7.

Planning permission has also been approved on a new stadium in partnership with Monmouthshire council, so the club will relocate to Abergavenny to assist with travel requirements of playing in the English system.  The stadium will be complete by the start of 2022/2023 season, and in the interim we are close to securing ground sharing rights, which will be announced in due course. In addition, from the start of next season the club will be renamed Abergavenny Bluebirds.

Chairman Rob Edwards states “this is a huge step for the club and something we have been working on behind the scenes for some time.  This is the first step to make the club full time professional, with the view of playing in the Football League in the next 5 years.”

“European football is a realistic possibility in Wales, but the commercial advantages of playing in the English system, with the view of making Abergavenny Bluebirds a Football League side and having UK wide coverage and catchment was too great an opportunity to pass up. We understand this will be a huge shock to many outside the club, but we hope that supporters will embrace this change and see the opportunities that this brings to the future of this great club.”
