The Bluebirds travel to mid-Wales on Saturday (27th) to face an in-form Newtown side for a 2.30pm kick off.

Last Time Out

The Bluebirds travelled to Deeside last weekend for a tough test against table-toppers Connah’s Quay Nomads. The away side were under pressure for much of the first half, but defended valiantly. Unfortunately, just before half time George Horan slotted home from a corner to give the champions the lead. The Bluebirds came out fighting in the second half, with Corey Shephard sending a spectacular bicycle kick just over the cross bar. The home side doubled their lead just before the hour mark as Mike Wilde tapped in at the back post for his 200th goal in the league. Substitute goalkeeper, Wojciech Gajda, pulled off an excellent save to deny Morris in the final 20 minutes of the game, as the Bluebirds fell to defeat.

Newtown suffered a similar fate, as they fell to mid-Wales rivals Aberystwyth Town. Tyrone Ofori was sent off for a second bookable offence for the Robins in the 54th minute, meaning he will miss the visit of the Bluebirds on Saturday. Harry Franklin then chipped the onrushing Newtown goalkeeper to give Aber a lead with 10 minutes to go. It looked like Newtown were destined to rescue a point as they were awarded a penalty shortly after the goal, but Connor Roberts saved from Fletcher, and the game finished 1-0 to Aber.

The Reverse Fixture

The Robins visited Pembrokeshire all the way back in September, for what was the Bluebirds first home game. The Sgorio cameras visited the Bridge Meadow and the live game was a spectacle. Jordan Evans gave the visitors the lead in the 34th minute as he headed home at the back post from a long throw-in. The Bluebirds came out fighting in the second half and were awarded a penalty just before the hour mark, which Danny Williams confidently scored. The Bluebirds were behind again as Kieran Mills-Evans put the Robins back in front, but just 3 minutes later, Jack Wilson crossed to the far post and Danny Williams got his second of the game to draw the sides level. This would be the last goal of the game as the Bluebirds secured the point.

The Table

Newtown sit one place and 6 points below the Bluebirds in the Cymru Premier. County were leapfrogged by Caernarfon town at the weekend, as the Cofis earned a shock victory at Bala. With just 2 games to go until the split, the Bluebirds need to at least match Caernarfon’s result this weekend to keep hopes of a top 6 finish alive.
