Further to the announcement on 19th October by the Welsh Government confirming a ‘firebreak’ lockdown situation was to happen for two weeks until 9th November, our Chairman would like to make the following statement:
“As you are all aware, the recent announcement states that sportspeople who work and earn a living through sport can continue working and can work at home if they wish to do so, and fixtures involving professional sportspeople can continue behind closed doors.
As with all clubs we were contacted after the announcement to gauge our intention to continue playing through this lockdown period. Due to our structure within the club, we were able and willing to continue to train, and play against planned opposition assuming they wanted to do so.
Therefore, our game against TNS will go ahead on Saturday, as was announced yesterday, and is moved to a 5.15 kick off to accommodate Sgorio for live coverage on S4C. As has just been announced also, our game against Bala Town at The Bridge Meadow Stadium that was originally planned for 19th December has been brought forward to 31st October, again at 5.15 and live on S4C.
During these last few days, we have had no contact from any other clubs, other than our opposition, and have expressed our desire to the FAW to continue working through this period. As with all clubs to date we have shown we can safely continue through this pandemic, and see this situation as no different, because of our number of contracted players and staff mean we can meet the criteria given by the Government and FAW to ensure all matchday requirements are fulfilled.
We fully respect and appreciate the decisions of other clubs in the league, and our desire to continue is purely down to the fact we want to do what we all love, which is to play football.
Thanks for your support, and up the Bluebirds!”
