On Sunday (27th), the Bluebirds will entertain champions Connah’s Quay Nomads at the Bridge Meadow stadium for a 2.30pm kick off.

The Bluebirds will face their toughest challenge of the season so far as last season’s champions pay a visit to Pembrokeshire, with an unbeaten record behind them. The last time the Nomads came to Pembrokeshire they ran out 5-1 victors in a Welsh Cup tie with Greg Walters grabbing the only goal for the Bluebirds. That game took place in January 2017, and a lot has changed in the previous 3 years.

There are many new faces at the club, all of which are up for the challenge after a spirited performance in the 2-2 draw with Newtown at the weekend. Returning face, Alaric Jones and new-boy, Cameron Keetch, both stated in pre-season interviews that they are looking forward to coming up against the best this season, and there is currently no bigger challenge than the Nomads. The visiting team strengthened in the summer with Aeron Edwards of TNS and Danny Davies of Prestatyn but have kept the core of their title winning squad in preparation for the 2020/21 campaign. The Nomads have started the season well, with a draw again Bala and a win against Penybont with a depleted squad. They have also won plaudits for their performances in Europe this season, with a spirited performance against FK Sarajevo and a heartbreaking, last-minute loss to Dinamo Tbilisi with several first team players missing.

Wayne Jones and the players will be under no illusions heading into this weekend and the Bluebirds will have to be on top form to challenge the Nomads. However, Saturday’s performance against Newtown in front of the cameras will give the players confidence heading into Sunday’s game. Danny Williams’ brace secured a point for County in the first home outing of the season. Williams will be out to continue this hot streak against one of the best defences in the league.
