Pontypridd Town 1 Haverfordwest County. 3

Manager Wayne Jones selected a formation which he thought may work on a much narrower pitch to the one we are used to when playing at home. His formation of 3-4-2-1 worked effectively from the start and any threats Pontypridd posed were mopped up by our solid back three. It was good to see our talented young wing back, HARRI ROWE, in action after a knee injury and it was he who opened the scoring on 28 minutes with a fine left footed shot from distance. Following good build up play and a lay off by Marcus Griffiths, the Bluebirds increased their lead in the 35th minute when a sweet strike from the edge of the box by ELLIOT THOMAS found the back of the net. Just before half time Ricky Watts was forced to leave the field with a calf strain and the formation changed to 3-5-2 with the introduction of Tyler Brock.
Pontypridd started the second half brightly and in the 53rd minute a cross to the far post from the left was headed home by JOSHUA MAKSOMOVIC. The Blues were soon back in their stride and with the increase in possession came scoring opportunities. On 79 minutes MILES JOHN completed the scoring with a strong shot that seemed to take a defection on its way. On 80 minutes, Marcus Griffiths, who had another fine game up front, was replaced by Jack Wilson.
Manager, Wayne Jones was happy with his team’s workmanlike performance and, of course, the three points gained away from home. The next test comes on Tuesday evening, 27th August when Goytre Utd are the visitors to the Bridge Meadow Stadium kick off 7.30 pm.
